FGCU Hockey Moves to Division II
Taking it to the Next Level in 2006-2007
March 30, 2006

It is with great pleasure that the FGCU Hockey program announce that it will be moving to Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Since its inception in 2002, the FGCU Hockey program has made significant strides to become one of the elite teams in Division III. In our short history, the team has played in three consecutive National Championship Tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the 2005 Nationals in Harmarville, Pennsylvania. This jump will provide better competition for the Ice Eagles and provide FGCU with the opportunity to play more recognized universities. This ambitious move will undoubtedly improve the quality of hockey played at Florida Gulf Coast University as the interest from incoming players has already spiked. The team is looking forward to getting back on the ice next season and continuing to provide both the FGCU and Southwest Florida communities with quality college hockey.
