Dr. David Kakkuri joins FGCU Hockey as the team's university advisor.
Summer Months Keep Eagles Busy
2006-2007 Management Team Released
September 5, 2006
The 2006 summer has proven to be one of the most active in FGCU Hockey history. Over the course of the summer, the program made some major administrative adjustments to prepare for the move to Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The team is proud to release their management team for the 2006-2007 Season. In total to date, the team added nine new members to the management team and are still looking to fill some future roles. One of the biggest off season moves was the addition of Dr. David Kakkuri as the new team university advisor. Kakkuri comes to the team with a wealth of experience in both the academic and hockey worlds. Kakkuri will also serve as FGCU Hockey's first Director of Player Eligibility, in which he will be directly responsible for monitoring the eligibility status of all players involved with the team. Dr. Kakkuri is currently the Director of the Center for Leadership & Development at Florida Gulf Coast University. Kakkuri is extremely excited about his new position with the FGCU Hockey Team and is already making significant contributions to the program.
Behind the bench, the Eagles have also made some changes. Coach Steve Jensen will take on the challenge of being the team's Head Coach. Steve has been with the program for three seasons and is very capable of handling his new position at the top. Coach Jensen will be joined by Cam McCormick as an assistant coach who specializes in developing goalies. In the coming weeks fans can also expect there to be one more addition to the coaching staff which will be announced at a later date.
For the first time in FGCU Hockey history, the team will have a full time certified athletic trainer (CTA) join the program this season. In the off-season the FGCU hockey team hired veteran John Young to become the team's first ever athletic trainer. John has an extensive history working with Major League Baseball teams and was recently employed by the local minor league baseball team the Fort Myers Miracle. Young will provide the team with the following services during the 2006-2007 Season: Injury Prevention, Risk Management, Injury Recognition, Injury Evaluation, Injury Assessment, Injury Treatment, Rehabilitation, & Reconditining. John will travel with the team to all road games and will become a huge part of the FGCU Hockey family for years to come. We are excited to be able to add John Young as we continue to support our playing personnel with the best tools possible.
Another significant administrative development was the election of Randy Bacik as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Randy Bacik has served the team in many capacities over the years as an equipment manager, director of travel, and board of director member. The move has been a long time coming for Bacik who has been involved with hockey for several years now. Randy Bacik is currently the President of Royal Shell Vacations, a rental company which operates on the Sanibel and Captiva Islands of Southwest Florida. Bacik has been well received by the players and board members and has been extremely busy during the off-season overseeing the day-to-day team operations. Randy Bacik coordinates and operates all FGCU Hockey Board of Director Meetings and is charged with the responsibility of managing all Board Members. FGCU Hockey could not be more excited to have such a qualified candidate sit on the Board of Directors as the Chairman.
The broadcast team has even done some restructuring this season. The voice of the Eagles will continue to be play-by-play commentator Jeff Healey, who also earned a promotion during the off season and will now serve as the Director of Broadcasting for the FGCU Hockey Team. Jeff will be directly responsible for coordinating and implementing all on air material and will help manage the other commentators. Healey will be joined by newcomer Miranda Hickel from Naples, Florida. Hickel has been an active member of the Southwest Florida community for her entire life and has been no stranger to public media. In the past, Miranda has helped with high school news reports and local sporting event interviews. Miranda will be accompanied by Tom Lott who will also return to the team as a color commentator. Tom has become well known on air for his extreme enthusiasm and eclectic personality. Lott is currently a residential assistant at Florida Gulf Coast University's on campus housing development North Lake Village.

The Board of Directors recently announced the addition of Donna Kazmierzak as FGCU Hockey's first ever Director of Sponsorship Development. This position has been created to help the team recruit new sponsors and develop new ways for local businesses to get involved with the program as a sponsor. Donna will help development sponsorship packages and will spend a majority of her time focused on selling the team's sponsorship packages. Kazmierzak has high expectations of both her own efforts and the team's efforts.
Jeff Healey will serve as the Director of Broadcasting for FGCU Hockey. All FGCU Hockey games will be broadcasted live.
With Randy Bacik moving up to the Board of Directors, Dale Bur and John Threlkeld will take over the equipment manger responsibilities together. Both Bur and Threlkeld have worked together with the team before in the same capacity. They have both become an integral part of the FGCU Hockey family.

With the move to Division II, the team will undoubtedly have more extensive and intense travel schedules. With that said, Kristi Rouan has joined the team as the new Director of Travel. Kristi will be directly responsible for planning and booking all team trips. Specifically, Kristi will book all airline tickets, reserve all motor coach vehicles, reserve all hotel rooms, and set-up all travel itineraries. Rouan currently works at Royal Shell Vacations and has a lot of experience in travel booking.

Finally, with the 2008 Nationals already on the horizon, FGCU Hockey is proud to announce that Elisa Fidani has been hired as the 2008 Nationals Tournament Director of Operations. Fidani is not only a professional event planner, but has a resume that makes her more than qualified for the job. Fidani has helped run events for both the National Hockey League and PGA Tour and specializes in sporting event entertainment and management. Currently, Elisa works at the National Director of Special Events for CI Investments based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Fidani will help lead FGCU Hockey as we prepare to host the country for the 2008 National Championships.
