| Harrington College Icebergs Become Newest Affiliate FGCU Hockey expands its Canadian Connection! September 12, 2008 It is with great pleasure that the FGCU Hockey Team welcomes the Harrington College Icebergs as a new affiliate. Harrongton College is based out of Oka, Quebec, Canada and has grown to become one of the country's premier training programs for aspiring hockey players. The College houses four teams including a Junior "A" Developmental Team which competes in the America East Hockey League. Director of Communications Matt Maida commented on the new affiliation by saying, "Harrington College is a first class program, which will undoubtedly provide more exposure for FGCU Hockey to Canadian athletes looking to play quality college hockey." With the new affiliation, Harrington College will travel to Florida annually to play a weekend series against the FGCU Eagles Hockey Team. The games will provide the coaching staff the opportunity to get a first hand look at the Icebergs and will give |
| the Harrington College players an opportunity to explore Florida Gulf Coast University. Harrington College Head Coach Dan D'Astoli explains the purpose of their program by stating: "At Harrington College we make sure elite hockey players get the opportunity to pursue and devlop their hockey skills in an environment that values both academic excellence and sound personal development" The Icebergs join the Mississauga Hornets from Canada and the Space Coast Hurraices from Rockledge, Florida as the three teams exclusively affiliated with the FGCU Hockey program. All three of these programs will prove to be invaluable as they continue to help develop potential FGCU Hockey players. The Harrington College Icebergs have captured the Victoria Cup in both 2007 and 2008, which is awarded to the champion of the America East Hockey League (AEHL). The AEHL is one of the newest Junior hockey league in North America and includes the following member teams: Team Ulysse, Eastern Pennsylvania Junior Bucks, St. Lawerence Lions, Dover Seawolves, Lionel - Groulx Nordiques, and Trois-Riviers. |
