| New American Junior Affiliation Announced! Space Coast Junior Hurricanes Join the Team September 12, 2008 Over the summer months, the FGCU Hockey Team worked extremely hard to find a junior hockey program in the United States and provide them with the opportunity to join the Ice Eagles as an official affiliate. It is with great pleasure that the Florida Gulf Coast University Hockey Team announce their newest affiliate in the Space Coast Hurricanes. The Jr. Hurricanes compete within the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League, which is the premier Junior 'B' League in the United States. The new affiliation will see the Jr. Hurricanes travel to Fort Myers, Florida annually to take on the FGCU Eagles. In addition, the Jr. Hurricanes will now have the opportunity to graduate their players directly into the Eagles lineup. Hurricanes Head Coach Shawn Ray mentions that he is "extremely excited about the new partnership". The Jr. Hurricanes will become the breeding ground for developing future FGCU Hockey Players. |
| Director of Communications Matt Maida commented on the new affiliation by saying: "FGCU Hockey is extremely happy to welcome the Jr. Hurricanes aboard. They have an outstanding program and have been producing top quality players since their inception. We look forward to working with their program and providing a place for their players to continue their hockey careers at the college level." The Jr. Hurricanes will prove to be invaluable as they continue to help develop potential FGCU Hockey players. The Space Coast Jr. Hurricanes will compete in a 34 game schedule within the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL). The MJHL is one of the best Junior hockey leagues in North America and includes the following member teams: Walpole Express, Portland Junior Pirates, Northern Cyclones, Hartford Jr. Wolfpack, Troy Eagles, Binghampton Jr. Senators, North Jersey Avalanche, Suffolk PAL, Long Island Royals, New York Saints, New Jersey Rockets, Junior Titans, New Jersey Renegades, Philadelphia Junior Flyers, Philadelphia Little Flyers, Valley Forge Minutemen, Central Penn Panthers, Washignton Little Capitals, Atlanta Knights, Charleston Wolverines, East Coast Eagles, Florida Eels, Hampton Road Jr. Whalers, Jacksonville Ice Dogs, Palm Beach Predators, Tampa Bay Bolts, Team Carolina. |
